Sri Lankan Highlands 2001 to present day
A Woodland Garden
Creation of this Garden in Sri Lanka commenced in 2002 and continues to this day. It was a rough wilderness of land adjoining a small cottage style bungalow. Structures have been added to give the areas form and purpose. The outdoor office, now bedecked with colourful creepers. A pond , once a murky swamp, now acts as a kingfishers hunting ground, with the very occasional fish eagle and otter family dropping in. The mingling of endemic tree species with rarer additions has created a haven for wildlife, with otters, deer, mongoose and porcupines, being amongst the regular visitors. Particular attention to selecting plants that attract bird life has been a major priority. Creating cool shaded areas in which to sit and enjoy relaxing during the hot, dry season and spots to take in the mountain views during the cooler monsoonal periods.
